A lot has changed

Once upon a time, I discovered that my future was in great turmoil.  I didn’t really know who or where to turn that would get me great results.   What great results?  Happiness mainly.  I was young and naive and I suppose I thought that the world would just give me some sort of magical cure to fix all of my problems.  Financial, emotional, spiritual.  You know the kind I’m sure.

Nowadays I’m a little older and a little more grounded with my hopes and expectations.  I’m still pushing the boundaries in terms of what I should probably expect, but I can live with that.

So what’s new?

I’m engaged.  That’s certainly something that I wondered, but didn’t necessarily expect would happen some years ago.  At one point, after 2005 I suspect, I had pretty much given up on dating.  I started it up about 6 or 7 years later and the first year with someone was kind of rocky and probably should have ended a lot sooner.  In that relationship I just couldn’t say that I was in love.  I wasn’t.  I tried.  But no matter how hard you try, if you are not really in love with someone, (your subconscious?) you just won’t be able to do it.

The really awkward part is how easily it was to move on once we ended it.  But I’m happy I did.  This second person that I started dating and I discovered how compatible we were.  She taught me patience, and I taught her that there was a lot more to her than she initially realized.  We went through some rough patches and we continued to learn about each other for two years.  As of August 29th, 2015, we are now engaged.

The thought of planning a wedding scares me.   There’s really a lot involved in that sort of thing.  I guess some guys are so disinterested in weddings that they just leave their fiance to do all the tough stuff. I’ve always liked being part of the creative process though.  I sure hope she doesn’t mind when I ask questions and kind of share my opinion (like I always do).

I love Michelle.  Even thinking about her for just a second brings a smile to my face.  Plus I can start wondering about all those things that seem unique to married people.  For instance, do married couples really start to look like each other after being married for so long?

*Plans outside of marriage*

I have been tossing around too many story ideas for too long.  I’m going to have to work on one of them and dedicate myself until it’s completed.  It’s rather bothersome to start working on a draft only to have another story in my head suddenly sidetrack my interests.  I have a lot of ideas.  I don’t have a lot of time.  I also don’t seem to have a lot of self control.  That’s another thing I am working on.  Focus.  FOCUS.   Do I even have time to do that right now? E’gads.  It seems like I’m going to have a pretty busy life pretty soon here.

There’s also the Wasted! idea.  Wasted! is a Choice of Games story that I have been working on.   Think of a gamebook like those old Choose Your Own Adventures titles you might have picked up when you were younger.

Want to avoid getting eaten by piranha? Turn to Page 32…

Well if those games grew up then Choice of Games apps would be what they would become as adults.  The code for those games allows you to run various checks and variables on what happens in the game. You can have stats, you can have relationships, you can have item systems and save systems. You can add pictures. You can even add music if you want.  The only real necessity is being a competent wordsmith and designing choices that are fulfilling to the player.   There are so many wonderful games that Choice of Games and their sister company, Hosted Games, release that I find myself checking my phone every Friday to see if anything has come out.

Wasted! is a post apocalyptic adventure that starts out on Saturn where the protagonist is finishing up his tour as a colonist. He/She is returning to Earth.  It’s all very exciting although by the time the player makes their return they discover that all is not right on the home planet.

I really fleshed out the universe for the game and many of the characters and quests were designed to be added to it when I discovered that the name is already taken.  Not by Choice of Games, mind you, but by another game produced by Adult Swim Games. It’s something about a rogue-like pub crawler.  What?  So that kind of sucks and I’m not entirely sure how names work when it comes to publishing.  I guess I’ll figure that out when the time comes.

So there you have it.   What I’m currently dealing with.

Stay tuned as I occasionally rant about various types of media.  I enjoy comic books, PC games (Western RPGs particularly), science fiction and fantasy movies, cartoons, and television shows, etc.  I’m a geek.  I even have a badge that says so but that’s something to discuss another time.

Have a great day.
